Founding President
Dalhousie Machine Learning Society (DMLS)
Founded Dalhousie's first Machine Learning society, building the organizational structure and leading its growth.
What I Did
I identified a gap in the university's technical community and founded DMLS. My role was not just administrative; I built the council from scratch, hiring executives and defining their roles. I led the society's strategic direction, initiating our mentorship program and research projects where students work directly with faculty. I oversaw the comprehensive development and scaling of the society.
Impact
Under my leadership, the society grew from zero to over 200 members in less than a year. The initiatives I started, like the mentorship program and research collaborations, created new value for students that went beyond standard events. We established a strong presence on campus and online, with 22k monthly impressions reflecting the effectiveness of the strategy I put in place.
What I Learned
I learned how to build an organization from the ground up, including recruiting talent and delegating responsibility. Leading a team of executives taught me how to align people around a shared vision and how to scale operations. I gained experience in strategic planning and executing long-term initiatives like research partnerships.
Key Highlights
Founded Dalhousie's first ML society (200+ members), ran hands-on workshops teaching NumPy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn, and wrote tutorial notebooks walking students through introductory machine learning concepts.
